Sustainability Training for Real Estate Agents

Building Inspiring Personal Brands through Purpose and Passion

From climate change and biodiversity loss, to social unrest and economic gloom, bad news is everywhere these days.

A home can be a refuge from global concerns and a place to build resilience for an uncertain future. But many people don’t consider the broader sustainability implications of buying or selling a property.

Real estate agents who understand how social, economic, or environmental factors affect housing markets have the opportunity to establish deeper, more meaningful connections with the clients they serve. This training will:

  • Show agents ways to be more valuable to prospective clients

  • Teach networking skills and opportunities

  • Link personal passions to marketing strategies

  • Inspire agents to grow community connections

Discovering Purpose in the Real Estate Industry

A recent survey found 69% of Fortune 1000 CEOs agree that balancing profit and purpose is having a positive, transformative impact on business.

It also found that the demand for purpose-driven businesses — while embraced by consumers — is actually being led by employees. This makes sense in light of studies that show people who find purpose in their careers are more satisfied

Similarly, agents — and the real estate industry as a whole — can benefit from embracing relevant sustainability topics. And the options are nearly limitless.

Whether it’s urban trees, bike lanes, affordable housing, or electric vehicles, agents can achieve greater satisfaction for themselves and clients by integrating their passions into their personal brands and networking activities. Topics in this training include:

  • What sustainability means

  • How it’s relevant to residential real estate

  • Local initiatives and organizations to consider

  • Your unique connection to sustainability

  • Social media marketing and networking tactics

  • How to authentically incorporate sustainability messaging

About this Training

This training is designed to strengthen personal brands and networking opportunities for individual real estate agents. It does this by helping agents understand the breadth of sustainability topics relevant to the industry and tap into those for which they already have an interest or passion. Hands on exercises encourage participants to refine the five elements of their own personal brand:

  1. Positioning

  2. Elevator Pitch

  3. Personal ‘Origin’ Story

  4. Communication Style

  5. Online Presence

The training is conducted by former cleantech and environmental reporter, Bart King. In 2009, King founded New Growth Communications to work with clients in sustainability related fields, including green building, smart grid technology and consumer goods. King’s corporate clients include Coca-Cola, AT&T, Wrangler Jeans, Tractor Supply and Itron, and he has given workshops and presentations on sustainability-related topics to dozens of public and private groups. This training was initially developed for Community & Council Realty Group of Keller Williams Realty Intown Atlanta.

Bart King

“Bart's training was invaluable. I'm passionate about sustainability, and discovering all the ways it's tied to the real estate industry was truly inspiring. At the same time, the workshop's focus on connecting passion to personal brand was helpful for the growth of our business — in particular, learning how to tell our personal stories in marketing and one-to-one communications to create more meaningful connections.”

~Ryan Graham, Founder at Community & Council Realty

“I was prepared to attend a lecture on sustainability. What I walked away with was unexpected. Bart engaged a roomful of attendees with his passion for a brighter future and how he could help us integrate, connect and develop an invigorating strategy for growth. Truly a breath of fresh air in a world full of tired strategies with no capacity for considering the world around us.”

~Kristen DiCarlo, Realtor and Founding Member of Community & Council Realty

FAQs

Our agents stay busy. How long does this training last?

The entire training can be delivered in 2.5 hours (3 hours if we take a lunch break together). Alternatively, it can be broken into two separate, shorter segments on sustainability and personal branding.

Will this training count towards continuing education (CE) credits?

If your agency has an in-house real estate school to sign off as sponsor, the paperwork is ready to submit for CE approval. If not, New Growth Communications is in talks with Georgia-based schools to secure an ongoing sponsor for the training.

Is the training in-person, or virtual?

As with most trainings, this course is more engaging in person. However, it can be delivered virtually for remote teams.

Will my agents really feel confident talking about sustainability?

One big takeaway from the training is that you don’t have to be an expert. It’s enough to have a big-picture understanding of relevant issues, an area of personal interest, and a genuine interest in seeing better social and environmental outcomes. This training will give the overview and help agents identify their own personal entry points that will allow them to speak confidently and forge authentic connections with like-minded people.

What is the cost of the training?

The fee for the entire training is approximately $5,000 for in-person delivery to between 12-24 participants. Other arrangements and fees can be worked out, as needed.
